Jim began his career in Southern California in the 1980’s as a freelance designer and art director for a variety of Southern California-based magazines, including Sea, Lakeland Boating, Rudder, Road & Track, and Cycle World, among others, and then as art director and contributing photographer for noted author and photographer Jake Grubb, publishing the first definitive book on the sport of boardsailing. Working alongside internationally-recognized sports photographers Bruce C. Brown and Paul Kennedy, and legends of the sport, including Bruce Matlack, Mike Waltze, and Rhonda Smith, The Sailboard Book helped bring the sport of boardsailing to prominence. He later served as art director and managing editor for New Homes Magazine, managing local and affiliate publications in the nation’s leading real estate markets.
